This awesome snorkel diving was the highlight of my trip to Mexico!
During summertime, the whale sharks come to feed in the waters north of the Yucatan Peninsula, providing excellent viewing opportunities for those who dare to take the plunge.
These gentle giants are the biggest fish in the ocean, and of course the biggest member of the shark family, reaching sizes of up to 15 meters long (50 feet)
And no, they don’t bite! They feed only on plankton, which they filter through their mouths and gills.
Although they seem to move slowly, they can actually swim pretty fast; following them with the only help of my fins was actually a challenge!
Have fun watching the video!
As of March 2014, this video has been seen 30,000 + times in You Tube, which makes it is my most successful one so far! (only so far!)

What an enormous fish. The people look very small in comparison. What interesting markings. Are they for identification? Were there several in the area? Do they like visiting with humans?

Hi Karina!
Yes, some of the markings are for ID purposes. And there were several whale sharks in the area!
Regarding humans…, they don’t seem to care about our presence…., if they are coming in your direction…., you better move out of the way! hahaha!
Thanks for your comment!
